One-Day GRiT Camps Develop Leaders
During Twin Valley’s One-Day GRiT Camp, Sage’s soft, kind, and thoughtful demeanor came through in skills exercises, t-shirt creation, and open discussions around being a girl on the trail. Her willingness to participate and share grew throughout the day and won our hearts as she led a post-lunch yoga & stretch session.
This one day of interacting with coaches, students, and other future student-athletes created familiarity that spilled over to the first day of practice and shone through in skills sessions during the first few weeks of the season. Sage’s new found knowledge of terminology and on-the-bike skills was shared at practice each week; she was a leader and role model for all of the first year female riders.
“The coaches and other experienced girls at our GRiT camp were supportive and welcoming. That gave me a boost of confidence that I could make it through the season and improve my riding skills. It was also nice to meet others who share my sense of humor.”
As the weeks passed, Sage could be found at the center of the girls’ pre-ride chatter at practice and providing helpful tips trailside. Sage finished the year feeling incredible and with amazing memories of the season, having grown her circle of female friends while building skills and fitness too.
Would you love to bring more young women like Sage to this awesome sport? Perhaps this is the season to try a One-Day GRiT Camp with your team!
Twin Valley's One-Day GRiT Camp is where Sage's journey started. For several years, Twin Valley Mountain Biking Team has hosted One-Day GRiT camps to provide a female focused environment where student and adult females could try mountain biking and build a connection to the team. The One-Day GRiT Camp format is one way to offer a concentrated dose of your team experience without a big lift.
“The 2023 one-day camp had seven student participants, four of them joined the team for the season and two of our dedicated moms achieved a Level 1 Coaches License! This represents an amazing success rate.”
Remember though that reaching just one individual to increase rider participation and engagement is success! Never underestimate The Power of One!
One-day GRiT camps are one way to add tremendous value to our teams and to our female community of riders. Camps are great at forming early bonds, increasing knowledge through skills sessions, and building confidence to include, guide and support others.
