Want to have a fun way to cool off after a long day of biking? Well GRiT is sponsoring the first annual Water Balloon Fight at Pen College of Technology on September 7th (see event schedule for exact time).
Fight with your teammates against racers from all across the state in this action packed game of skill and strategy! This competitive fundraising event will help to raise money for GRiT’s future events and the She Send Foundation. Join in on this new and exciting activity for all racers!
Event details
The battlefield will be taped off and included ample hiding spots, cover zones, and “safe” areas. Participants will start in their teams, and when the megaphone counts down, the real action begins! Target opposing teams or go rogue!
Remember: only two balloons can be held by each player at one given time and head shots are strongly discouraged. Furthermore, while this activity is sponsored and coordinated by GRiT, ALL racers can participate!
How can you participate?
Each racer will get two water balloons initially on the day of the event. From there, money donated by teams will be collected and extra balloons ($5 raised per two extra balloons) will be given to the respective teams. These balloons will be stored in the team’s bucket during the fight and can only be used by that team. There is also a limit of one hundred extra balloons per team.
Start fundraising early! Money will be collected during the entirety of the practice season as well as event day. Give your team the upper hand and try and raise the most money!
Team totals and updates will be posted on the picljar instagram as the season continues. The GRiT tent will also have a poster board of the current totals displayed on race day.
Our Cause
The money collected during the event will not only fuel GRiT’s future endeavors but will contribute the She Sends Foundation. This inspiring program works to diversify the mountain biking community and helps with the means to get more women on bikes. These donations will be put into grants for teams and organizations to supply more riders with bikes and appropriate gear. For more information please visit She Sends Foundation.
Design Challenge (Team Buckets)
Another creative team activity will be customizing the team bucket. These buckets will store the team’s extra balloons during the battle. This could be an actual bucket but coolers and bins work just as well! The design must include the team’s name and most the creative design will win the design challenge for a prize!
(Tip: covering the design in clear tape while taping it to the bucket will make it waterproof)
Clean Up Challenge
Once the fight is over, it is extremely important to leave the venue as clean as it started! To add even more fun to this event, GRiT will be conducting the Clean Up Challenge. Teams will work together to collect as much balloon material off of the battlefield and into their team bucket in the designated time limit. The wining team, who collects the most material, will earn a prize for their whole team to use!
Awards
All teams that raise $250 or more (which earns them the maximum amount of extra balloons) will receive an award on event day.
As well as this, the team that raises the most money will receive the annual GRiT Water Battle award which will be passed onto the winner of next year’s tournament.
Likewise, the wining team of the Clean Up Challenge will earn a team trail core tool which can be used to further improve their own trails!
And last but not least, the winner of the design challenge will receive a prize that’ll only be revealed during the awards ceremony!
For any and all questions, please DM us on instagram at @picljar or email grit@pamtb.org . We hope to see you there!!
