Skills, Drills, & Muffins (Day 2)

Hello from high on top of Burke Mountain where the weather gods smiled on us once again. Temps ranged from 67 in the early morning and topped out in the low 80s here in the 802 for the second day of camp, also known as Team Jersey Day.

We started the day with the first breakfast of the week with some scrambled eggs, the best potatoes you could find anywhere, veggie and regular maple sausage, yogurt, chia pudding, fruit, and cereal. What really stole the breakfast show was Chef Issac’s muffins. These muffins are so famous, they even have their own instagram. Follow @bmamuffinman to see more behind the scenes of the BMA Kitchen.

We met our friends last night and our coaches today.

Once we were fueled up, we got a bit more of a chance to meet our coaches and our ride buddies. We were brought back in to watch the last lap of the Olympics in the same place a few dozen olympians went to school. It was great to watch Tom Pidcock win gold and see the highest finish for an American in this event in its history. It is extra special since he is only a few years older than us.

We were motivated by watching the amazing riding, so we also wanted to show off the skills to pay the bills on our fantastic skills course. We even got to ride the pump track on campus. I want on of these at home.

Did you know that Haley Batten, a former NICA athlete won a silver medal in Women’s Olympic Mountain biking this week?

We were motivated by watching the amazing riding, so we also wanted to show off the skills to pay the bills on our amazing skills course.

Landmine….don’t touch the cone.

Small circles help us with bike body separation, and lead us to better overall skills.

Pump but done pedal.

We noshed on another awesome meal of Tuscan chicken, Spicy Tofu, Rice, Zucchini, and salad then headed out with our coaches to ride some trails. Some of us rode from camp, some took the shuttle to the far end of the trail system to start our ride.

Riders rode trails with names like Trillium, Burn Em Down, Sidewinder, Millie’s Way, Coronary, Farm Junk, and many many more. One of the traditions of Kingdom is to go and visit the ice cream stand and sit in the water while waiting for our shuttle back to camp. Almost everyone from camp hung out by the river and we had a blast.

The barns on Darling Hill are epic. We are so lucky to ride in their backyard.

Riding on top of Easthaven with Epic views of the land and sky.

Ice cream and creek sitting can’t be beat…unless you add some of your friends from all around the state. I see Carlisle, Scranton, Pittsburgh, and Radnor all chilling together.

The shuttle ride back up Mountain Rd. was needed. We were tired from a day of skills and riding and it was nice to sit in some air conditioning for a few minutes.

We had a bit of free time to take care of ourselves and our bikes before reporting to our Spaghetti and Bolognese sauce, salad.

Our evening activities options included a movie, pump track time, board games, arts and crafts, volleyball, laser tag, and a few other activities.

We capped off the night when we got our beautiful PICL Summer camp jerseys that we will wear tomorrow.
